Date: Thursday of the 2nd Week in Ordinary Time/Day of Prayer for Protection of Unborn
Scripture Text: Mark 3:7-12
Jesus withdrew toward the sea with his disciples. A large number of people followed from Galilee and from Judea. Hearing what he was doing, a large number of people came to him also from Jerusalem, from Idumea, from beyond the Jordan, and from the neighborhood of Tyre and Sidon. He told his disciples to have a boat ready for him because of the crowd, so that they would not crush him. He had cured many and, as a result, those who had diseases were pressing upon him to touch him. And whenever unclean spirits saw him, they would fall down before him and shout, “You are the Son of God.” He warned them sternly not to make him known.
Breaking the text open – background and summary:
Today’s short gospel reading continues our reading of the Gospel of Mark and shows us the number of people who came to Jesus for help from all over the region, seeking primarily healing.
Meditating on the text with personal questions:
Do I seek out Jesus as I should for physical, emotional, and spiritual healing? Do I seek His help in forgiving? Do I bring the needs of others to Him?
Praying:
LORD, Jesus Christ, Son of God, Savior, have mercy on us for we are sinners. Send your Spirit to stir within us and draw us closer to You. Grant that we may seek You out daily and journey to You daily for the help that only You can give. This day, as we pray for the protection of the unborn, grant that we may also be attentive to those around us in need and bring them to You, as well. Amen.
