Scripture Text:   Mark 3:13-19

Jesus went up the mountain and summoned those whom he wanted and they came to him. He appointed Twelve, whom he also named Apostles, that they might be with him and he might send them forth to preach and to have authority to drive out demons: He appointed the Twelve: Simon, whom he named Peter; James, son of Zebedee, and John the brother of James, whom he named Boanerges, that is, sons of thunder; Andrew, Philip, Bartholomew, Matthew, Thomas, James the son of Alphaeus; Thaddeus, Simon the Cananean, and Judas Iscariot who betrayed him.

Breaking the text open – background and summary:

In today’s gospel reading, Mark recounts Jesus’ selection of the Twelve apostles.

Meditating on the text with personal questions:

Do I come to Jesus when He summons me? Do I accept the role He asks me to take for His mission?

Praying:

LORD,  Jesus Christ, Son of God, our Savior, we come to You this day seeking to continue the salvific mission from the Father, through You, in the Spirit. Send your Spirit to help us more clearly discern the roles You ask us to take up for your ongoing mission here on earth for love of You and the glory of the Father, serving You and our sisters and brothers. Amen.
