Daily Scripture Reflection & Prayer: January 3,2026

Scripture Text:  1 John 2:29–3:6

If you consider that God is righteous, you also know that everyone who acts in righteousness is begotten by him. See what love the Father has bestowed on us that we may be called the children of God. Yet so we are.

The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him. Beloved, we are God’s children now; what we shall be has not yet been revealed. We do know that when it is revealed we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is.

Everyone who has this hope based on him makes himself pure, as he is pure.

Everyone who commits sin commits lawlessness, for sin is lawlessness. You know that he was revealed to take away sins, and in him there is no sin. No one who remains in him sins;no one who sins has seen him or known him.

Breaking the text open – background and summary:

 In the first reading taken from the 1^st Letter of John, we readers are reminded that as Children of a righteous LORD we are called to practice righteousness in our lives in contrast to those who do not know or love the LORD.

Meditating on the text with personal questions:

 Does my life give witness to my Savior, Jesus Christ, and glory to the Almighty Father?

Praying:

LORD, Almighty Father, we come to You this day assured of your love and longing to bring that love into the world for your glory. We look upon our Savior, Jesus Christ, only-begotten Son of God, and seek to walk in His footsteps, to lead a righteous life as He taught us through word and through deed. Send your Spirit to help us follow Him closely, to love You wholly, and to live lives marked by faith, buoyed by hope and fueled by love. We ask this in the name of your Son, Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns with You and the Spirit, one LORD, forever and ever. Amen.
