LECTIO - Read Scripture Text: Â Psalm 51
Have mercy on me, O God,
according to your loving kindness,
According to the multitude of your tender mercies,
blot out my transgressions.
Wash me thoroughly from my guilt,
And cleanse me from my sin.
Â
I acknowledge my transgression;
And my sin is ever before me.
Against you and you alone have I sinned,
And done evil in your sight.
You are justified when you speak,
And clear when you judge.
Behold, I was formed in iniquity,
And in sin did my mother conceive me.
Behold, you desire sincerity of heart,
And in my inmost being, you teach me wisdom.
Â
Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean.
Wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.
Let me hear the sounds of joy and gladness,
May the bones which you have broken rejoice.
Turn away your face from my sins,
And blot out all my offenses.
Â
Create in me a clean heart, O God,
And renew a steadfast spirit within me.
Cast me not from your presence,
And take not your holy spirit from me.
Restore to me the joy of your salvation,
And with a willing spirit, sustain me.
Â
Then will I teach transgressors your ways,
And sinners shall be converted to you.
Deliver me from my guilt, O God,
For you are the God of my salvation,
And my tongue shall sing aloud of your righteousness.
O Lord, open my lips,
And my mouth shall declare your praise.
For you do not desire sacrifice,
Should I offer you a holocaust, you would not accept it.
You delight not in burnt offerings.
My sacrifice, O God, is a contrite spirit,
A contrite and humbled heart, O God, you will not spurn.

MEDITATIO - Meditate on text, allow the LORD to touch us with His Word:
Am I a contrite and humble being?
Â
BREAKING OPEN THE TEXT:
This psalm is often called the ultimate prayer of humble repentance and the LORD’s desire for interior conversion rather than external demonstrations.
Â
ORATIO – Lifting our minds and hearts to the LORD in prayer:
Create in me a clean heart, O God,
And renew a steadfast spirit within me.
Cast me not from your presence,
And take not your holy spirit from me.
Restore to me the joy of your salvation,
And with a willing spirit, sustain me.
