Jesus began to reproach the towns where most of his mighty deeds had been done, since they had not repented. "Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! For if the mighty deeds done in your midst had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would long ago have repented in sackcloth and ashes. But I tell you, it will be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon on the day of judgment than for you. And as for you, Capernaum: Will you be exalted to heaven? You will go down to the netherworld. For if the mighty deeds done in your midst had been done in Sodom, it would have remained until this day. But I tell you, it will be more tolerable for the land of Sodom on the day of judgment than for you."
Breaking the text open:
The gospel text for today, Tuesday of the 15th Week in Ordinary Time, reminds us of our blessings and abundance of graces from the Loving LORD. Have we recognized the LORD’s power and presence in our lives and seen it as a call to repent, to turn to the LORD?
Meditating on the text:
Do I recognize the LORD’s power and presence at work in my life and in my world? Am I grateful? Do I offer praise and thankgiving? Do I realize that the greatest praise and thanksgiving I can offer the LORD is to “turn” – to allow the conversion of my heart to Christ?
Praying:
LORD, Almighty Father, always and everywhere throughout the ages, You have been there, our mighty creator and loving Father. You sent your beloved Son to assume our humanity and from within our midst to selflessly lay down His life for our sins though He himself was innocent so that we might be reconciled to You and live as your daughters and sons. Daily we enjoy your power and presence in our midst and daily your Spirit calls to us to turn, to return. Grant that we may cooperate with the graces given, give thanks for all that we have received, and seek to give glory to You through our praise and through our lives as your beloved children and disciples of Christ. We ask this in the name of your Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns with You and the Spirit, one LORD, forever and ever. Amen.
