Daily Scripture Reflection & Prayer: July 29,2026

LECTIO - Read Scripture Text:   John 11:19-27

Many Jews had come to comfort Martha and Mary because of their brother (Lazarus who had died). When Martha heard that Jesus was on his way, she went to meet him while Mary stayed at home.

Martha said to Jesus, “Lord, if you had been here, my brother would not have died. But I know that even now whatever you ask of God, God will give you.”

Jesus said to her, “Your brother will rise again.” Martha said to him, “I know that he will rise in the resurrection on the last day.”

Jesus told her, “I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, even if he dies, will live. And anyone who lives and believes in me will never die. Do you believe this?”

She responded to him, “Yes, Lord, I have come to believe that you are the Christ, the Son of God, the one who is coming into the world.”

MEDITATIO - Meditate on text, allow the LORD to touch us with His Word:

Do I believe in Christ and live in Christ?

BREAKING OPEN THE TEXT:

Today’s gospel on the memorial of Martha, Mary and Lazarus is drawn from the gospel of John and recounts the encounter between Jesus and Martha following the death of Lazarus where Jesus proclaims himself “the resurrection and the life” and where Martha professes her faith in Jesus as Son of God, Messiah.

ORATIO – Lifting our minds and hearts to the LORD in prayer:

Lord, Almighty Father, You gave to us your only-begotten Son. He took on our human nature in all ways except sin so that He might for love of You and love of us atone for our sins on the cross of Calvary. Send the Spirit to illuminate my mind and tenderize my heart so that I might fully and wholly recognize in Him your Son, the Savior, and commit to life in Him. I ask this in the name of your Son, Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns with You and the Spirit, one LORD, forever and ever. Amen.
