LECTIO - Read Scripture Text: Matthew 5:33-37
(Jesus said,) “You have heard it said to your forebearers that you shall not falsely swear but that you shall make good to the Lord all that you pledged. But I say to you, do not swear at all, not by heaven, for it is God’s throne, nor by the earth for it is His footstool, nor by Jerusalem, for it is the city of the great king. Do not swear by your head for you cannot make a single hair white or black. Let your “yes” mean “yes” and your “no” mean “no.” Anything more is from the evil one.”
MEDITATIO - Meditate on text, allow the LORD to touch us with His Word:
Am I honest? Does my “yes” mean “yes”? Am I a person of integrity?
BREAKING OPEN THE TEXT:
Today’s gospel reading taken from Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount reminds us of Jesus’ call to us to be people of integrity and truth.
ORATIO – Lifting our minds and hearts to the LORD in prayer:
Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, the Way and the Truth and the Life, I long to follow You with all my strength. Send the Spirit to stir within in and open my mind and heart more fully to your demands of me as a disciple, to the truth that You reveal in scripture and prayer, and to the life You gave your life to open to me. Grant that I may be a person of integrity, authentic, honest, and guided by the moral principles You taught and lived and call me to observe. Amen.
CONTEMPLATIO – Sitting with the LORD in silence for a minute or more
