Daily Scripture Reflection & Prayer: June 29,2026

LECTIO - Read Scripture Text:   Matthew 16:13-19

Jesus entered the region of Caesarea Philippi. He asked His disciples, “Who do people say that the Son of Man is?”

They answered, “Some say John the Baptist. Others say Elijah. And others say Jeremiah or one of the prophets.”

He spoke to them again, “But who do you say that I am?”

Simon Peter responded, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.”

Jesus replied to him, “Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, because flesh and blood alone has not revealed this to you, but my heavenly Father. So I say to you, you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build my Church and the gates of the never world shall not prevail against it. I will give to you the keys to the Kingdom of heaven. Whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.”

Who do I say Jesus is?

BREAKING OPEN THE TEXT:

Today’s gospel reading recounts Jesus’ questioning of who He is and of His establishing Simon as Peter – Rock – upon whom He would build His Church on earth.

ORATIO – Lifting our minds and hearts to the LORD in prayer:

Lord Jesus Christ, inform my mind and heart and very soul so that I might see and embrace You as Son of God and my Savior. Send your Spirit to help me to conform myself to You and transform me into an instrument of your ongoing salvific mission in this world. Grant that I may daily draw upon your love and allow it to guide me and grace me. Amen
