LECTIO - Read Scripture Text: Mark 12:28-34
One of the scribes came forward and heard them disputing and saw how well He had answered them, and he asked Him, “Which is the first commandment of all?”
Jesus answered him, “The first of all the commandments is ‘Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God is one Lord, and you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul, and with all your mind, and with all your strength.’ This is the first commandment. And the second is like it, ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.”
And the scribe said to Him, “Well said, Master, you are right is saying there is one God and there is no other but he. And to love him with all the heart and with all the understanding, and with all the soul, and with all the strength, and to love his neighbor as himself is more than all whole burnt offerings and sacrifices.”
And when Jesus saw that he had answered wisely, He said to him, “You are not far from the kingdom of God.” And no one after that dared to ask Him a question,
MEDITATIO - Meditate on text, allow the LORD to touch us with His Word:
BREAKING OPEN THE TEXT:
Today’s gospel reading recounts Jesus’ yoking of love of God and love of one another together into an indivisible commandment, the greatest commandment. Jesus calls us to total surrender to love of God and others.
ORATIO – Lifting our minds and hearts to the LORD in prayer:
LORD, You are love itself. In love, You created, with love You sustain, through love You transform. Grant that I may become the one You created me to be, a loving person, made in You image. May I love You with all my being and my neighbors as myself. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
CONTEMPLATIO – Sitting with the LORD in silence for a minute or more
