LECTIO - Read Scripture Text: 2 Timothy 3:10-17
But you know my teachings, manner of lie, purpose, faith, suffering, charity, patience, persecutions, afflictions that have come to me at Antioch, at Iconium, and at Lystra. You know what persecutions I endured, but out of them all the Lord delivered me. In fact, all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution. But evil individuals and charlatans will go from bad to worse, deceiving and being deceived.
But you, continue in the things that you have learned and believed, assured because you know from whom you learned it. From infancy, you have known the holy scriptures which are able to make you wise to salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. All scripture is given by inspiration of God and is profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness so that the one belonging to God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished for all good works.
MEDITATIO - Meditate on text, allow the LORD to touch us with His Word:
BREAKING OPEN THE TEXT:
In today’s 1st reading from Paul’s 2nd Letter to Timothy, Paul urges Christians to follow his example in their suffering for the Gospel which is to be expected. Paul also urges Christians to rely upon the holy scriptures, inspired by God, for truth and for the path to righteousness.
ORATIO – Lifting our minds and hearts to the LORD in prayer:
Loving and All-present Lord, I desire to live the life You created me to live. Let your Spirit guide me and lead me in my ways and to open your Word so that I might better understand what is required of me in my essential and life-giving relationship with You. Grant that I may learn from the example of others, too, LORD, as I journey in faith, buoyed by hope and fueled by your love. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
CONTEMPLATIO – Sitting with the LORD in silence for a minute or more
