LECTIO - Read Scripture Text: Luke 18:9-14
And Jesus spoke a parable to:
“Two men went up into the temple to pray: a Pharisee and a publican. The Pharisee stood with himself and prayed, ‘God, I thank You that I am not as other men, insatiably greedy, unjust, faithless, or even as this tax collector. I fast twice each week. I give tithes on all that I possess.’ But the publican, standing far away, would not even raise his eyes unto heaven, but beat his breast, saying, ‘God, be merciful to me a sinner.’
"I tell you, this second man went down to his home justified but not the other. Everyone who exalts himself shall be humbled; he who humbles himself shall be exalted,”
MEDITATIO - Meditate on text, allow the LORD to touch us with His Word:
When I pray, do I pray to the LORD in humility or do I proudly tell the LORD how righteous and good I am like the Pharisee? Am I a spiritual snob? As the sinner I know I am, should I not be humble when I come before the LORD?
ORATIO – Lifting our minds and hearts to the LORD in prayer:
Almighty LORD, I come before You this day in praise of You and grateful for all that is good in this world because of You. I humbly ask for your mercy, your forgiveness for those times I have not lived as the one You created me to be and have not loved as You have called me to love. “Love one another as I have loved You.” LORD, may I seek this day only goodness and love for the world and from me for love of You,
CONTEMPLATIO – Sitting with the LORD in silence for a minute or more
