LECTIO - Read Scripture Text:   John 11:20-27

As soon as Martha heard that Jesus was coming, she went and met him, but Mary sat at home. Martha said to Jesus, “Lord, if you had been here, my brother would not have died. But I know that even now whatever you ask God, God will give it to you.”

Jesus said to her, “Your brother shall rise again.”

Martha said to Him, “I know that he shall rise again in the resurrection at the last day.

Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life; whoever believes in me, even though he die, yet shall he live. And whoever lives and believes in me shall never die. Do you believe this?”

She said to Him, “Yes, Lord, I do believe that You are the Christ, the Son of God, who is to come into the world.”

MEDITATIO - Meditate on text, allow the LORD to touch us with His Word:

“If” – Martha’s faith shown by her word “if” and even more noticeable in her “whatever you ask God” – still believing – still hoping.  “I am the resurrection” – not just a future event but a person. He is offering eternal life now.

ORATIO – Lifting our minds and hearts to the LORD in prayer:

Almighty Father, You sent your beloved Son into the world as our brother, human in all ways except sin, and as our savior. He opened our minds and hearts to You and your great love through His teachings and his works but most especially through His gift of love upon the cross of Calvary, a gift of his life for ours for love of You and love of us. Send your Spirit to stir within us and illuminate our minds so that we might more fully understand His words and ways, so that we believe with our whole beings as Martha did when she was begging for the life of her brother, Lazarus. Grant that these last two weeks of our Lenten journeys will find us turning and returning in love and for love of You, the Son, and the Spirit. We ask this in the name of your Son, Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns with You and the Spirit, one LORD, forever and ever. Amen.

CONTEMPLATIO – Sitting with the LORD in silence for a minute or more
