LECTIO - Read Scripture Text: Genesis 17:3-9
Abraham prostrated himself, and God spoke with him saying, “As for me, behold my covenant is with you, and you shall be a father of many nations. Your name shall no longer be called Abram, but your name shall be Abraham because I have made you the father of many nations. And I will make you exceedingly fruitful, and I will make nations of you and kings shall come from your lineage. And I will establish my covenant between me and you and your seed after you in their generations for an everlasting covenant, to be your God and to your descendants after you. And I will give to you and to your descendants after you the land where you are a stranger, all the land of Canaan, for an everlasting possession, and I will be their God.”
And God said unto Abraham, “You shall keep my covenant, you and all your offsprings in their generations.”
MEDITATIO - Meditate on text, allow the LORD to touch us with His Word:
“covenant between me and you” – “an everlasting covenant” – an everlasting promise between the LORD and humanity – a relational bond
“I will be their God” – a relational LORD
“You shall keep my covenant” - live as the LORD calls us to live
ORATIO – Lifting our minds and hearts to the LORD in prayer:
Almighty Father, loving and merciful LORD, You invited us into a relationship with You, an everlasting relationship, for all generations. You called us to life with You and in You. Send your Spirit to rouse within us the love with which You created us so that we might once and for all embrace our covenant with You. Grant that we may believe in your only-begotten Son, our redeemer, and that we will follow in His footsteps for He is “the way and the truth and the life.” May these finals days of our Lenten journeys bring us closer to You and to the covenantal relationship You call us to. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
CONTEMPLATIO – Sitting with the LORD in silence for a minute or more
