LECTIO - Read Scripture Text:   John 10:31-42

Then the Jews took up stones again to stone him. Jesus answered them, “Many good works have I shown you from my Father; for which of those works do you stone me?”

The Jews answered him saying, “For a good work we do not stone you, but for blasphemy because you, being a man, are making yourself God.”

Jesus answered them. “Is it not written in your law, ‘I said, you are gods?’ If He called them gods to whom the word of God came and the scripture cannot be broken, do you say to him, whom the Father has sanctified and sent into the world, ‘You blaspheme’ because I said I am the Son of God? If I do not do the works of my Father, then do not believe me. But if I do, though you believe me not, believe the works that you may know and believe that the Father is in me and I in him.”

They tried again to take Him, but He escaped out of their hand. And went away again beyond Jordan into the place where John had first baptized. And there he stayed. And many came to Him and said, “John did no miracle, but all things that John spoke of this man were true.” And many came to believe in him there.

MEDITATIO - Meditate on text, allow the LORD to touch us with His Word:

“believe the works” – signs of Christ’s divinity

“the Father is in me and I in him” – unity of Father and Son in nature and will – remember Jesus’ words, “Your will not mine”

ORATIO – Lifting our minds and hearts to the LORD in prayer:

Almighty Father, I come to You full of wonder at all your works and humility that You would send your only-begotten Son as our redeemer because of your love and desire for humanity to have life. Send your Spirit to help me discern fully your ongoing power and presence in my moments, in my day, in those around me, and most especially in recognizing your Son so that I might better live as the one You created me to be and the disciple He calls me to be. I ask this in the name of your Son, Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns with You and the Spirit, one LORD, forever and ever. Amen.

CONTEMPLATIO – Sitting with the LORD in silence for a minute or more
