Daily Scripture Reflection & Prayer: May 1,2026

LECTIO - Read Scripture Text:   John 14:1-6

(Jesus said to his disciples:) “Let not your heart be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me. In my Father’s house there are many mansions. If it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you into myself so that where I am, there also may you be. And wherever I go, you know the way.”

Thomas said to Him, “Lord, we do not know where you are going. How can we know the way?”

Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”

MEDITATIO - Meditate on text, allow the LORD to touch us with His Word:

BREAKING OPEN THE TEXT:

In today’s gospel reading, Jesus gives us assurance of eternal life. More importantly, He identifies himself as “the way, the truth and the life.”  Jesus doesn’t just show us the way; Jesus is the way. Jesus doesn’t just tell us the truth; Jesus is the truth. Jesus doesn’t just teach of life; Jesus is the bearer of life. He came so we might have life and have it in abundance.

ORATIO – Lifting our minds and hearts to the LORD in prayer:

Lord, Jesus Christ, Son of God, we come to You today with our eyes open, our minds open, our hearts open know that You are “the way” and that the life we seek is not possible without You. We come knowing that You are “the truth” – the Word of God made flesh who dwelt among us. We come to You because we know that without You we can do nothing. We come because we know that it is through You that we will come to the Father. We come begging You to remain with us as we promise to remain with You. Amen.

CONTEMPLATIO – Sitting with the LORD in silence for a minute or more
