Daily Scripture Reflection & Prayer: May 18, 2024

Date: Saturday of the 7th Week of Easter  

Scripture Text:  Ps 11:4, 5 and 7

R. (see 7b) The just will gaze on your face, O Lord.

The LORD is in his holy temple;

the LORD's throne is in heaven.

His eyes behold,

his searching glance is on mankind.

R. The just will gaze on your face, O Lord.

The LORD searches the just and the wicked;

the lover of violence he hates.

For the LORD is just, he loves just deeds;

the upright shall see his face.

R. The just will gaze on your face, O Lord.

Breaking the text open – background and summary:

 The responsorial psalm for today reminds us of the LORD’s sovereignty over all of creation and His all-knowing and all-seeing presence. Finally, the psalm reminds us of the reward for the upright, for those who love the LORD with all their being and who love others and seek to live justly with one another.

Meditating on the text with personal questions:

Do I acknowledge the LORD’s sovereignty? Do I humbly seek to understand the LORD’s will for me? Do I sincerely seek to live the LORD’s will through love of the LORD and love for all my sisters and brothers?

Praying:

LORD,  Almighty Father, Beloved Son, Most Holy Spirit, I come to You aware of all You are and that I am only because of You. I pray to You for guidance, so that I might live the life You created me to live, so that I might become the disciple You call me to be, so that I might cooperate with the gifts and graces You give to me to assist me in my journey of becoming, believing, and belonging. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
