: For the remaining days of May, I will feature a Scripture text involving Mary as tribute to her in this her month as the Mother of our Savior.

LECTIO - Read Scripture Text:   John 2:1-12

There was a marriage in Cana of Galilee, and the mother of Jesus was there as were Jesus and his disciples. And when they wanted wine, the mother of Jesus said to Him, “They have no wine.”

Jesus said to her, “Woman, what have I to do with this. My hour has not yet come.”

His mother said to the servants, “Whatever He says to you, do it.”

And there were six waterpots of stone used for ceremonial purification, each holding twenty to thirty gallons. Jesus said to them, “Fill the waterpots with water.” And they filled them up to the brim. Then He said to them, “Draw out some now and take it to the host. And they took it.

When the table-master tasted the water made into wine, not knowing its origin (but the servants who drew the water knew), he called the bridegroom and said to him, “Every one set forth the good wine at the beginning and then when everyone is drunk, then they bring out the worse. But you have keep the good wine until now.”

This beginning of miracles Jesus did in Cana of Galilee and they manifested His glory and his disciples believed in Him. After this, He went down to Capernaum, He and His mother and His kin and His disciples, and they stayed there only a few days.

MEDITATIO - Meditate on text, allow the LORD to touch us with His Word:

BREAKING OPEN THE TEXT:

The Wedding at Cana account in the Gospel of John recounts the beginning of Jesus’ miracles, the superabundance that flows when we do whatever Jesus tells us to do, and the role of Mary, the Blessed Mother, as our “intercessor” and as the first real disciple who believed in Jesus even before His public signs and miracles.

ORATIO – Lifting our minds and hearts to the LORD in prayer:

Almighty and Loving Father, You sent your only-begotten Son to share our humanity in all ways except sin, and You chose Mary, our Blessed Mother, to be the Mother of your beloved Son. Send your Spirit to grace us with the gift of cooperation so that we might joyfully and totally surrender to Him and do whatever He tells us to do. Grant that our faith in you Son will be as strong as that of Mary as shown at the Wedding at Cana. We ask this in the name of  your Son, Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns with You and the Spirit, one LORD, forever and ever. Amen.

CONTEMPLATIO – Sitting with the LORD in silence for a minute or more
