Daily Scripture Reflection & Prayer: May 26,2026

LECTIO - Read Scripture Text:   Mark 10:28-31

Then Peter said to Him, “We have left everything and have followed You.”

Jesus answered and said, “Truly, I tell you that there is no man that has left house or brethren or sisters or father or mother or wife or children or lands for my sake and for the gospel who will not receive a hundredfold more in this present age: houses, brethren, sisters, mothers children and lands with persecutions and in the world to come eternal life. But the first shall be last, and the last shall be first.”

MEDITATIO - Meditate on text, allow the LORD to touch us with His Word:

BREAKING OPEN THE TEXT:

Jesus’ words in response to Peter’s statement of the cost of discipleship promise a spiritual reward of a hundredfold and eternal life. Jesus told us earlier in His ministry that one who wishes to follow must “deny self, pick up his cross and follow” Jesus’ final words to Peter and the disciples in today’s gospel text warn us about pride in this world, including spiritual pride. It is the holy humble who shall be first in the heavenly kingdom.

ORATIO – Lifting our minds and hearts to the LORD in prayer:

Lord, Jesus Christ, Son of God, our Savior, we turn to You this day and all days for help as we seek to follow in your footsteps as your disciples. Send the Spirit to strengthen our resolve and to vanquish our pride so that we might more humbly and faithfully follow You who gave up everything for us. Remain in us, LORD, as we seek to remain in You.  Amen.
