Daily Scripture Reflection & Prayer: May 28,2026

LECTIO - Read Scripture Text:   1 Peter 2: 2-5, 9-12

As newborn babes. desire the authentic milk of the word that you may grow from it. If you do so, you will be sustained in the LORD’s graciousness.

Welcome Him, a living stone, rejected by men but chosen by God and precious. You, also, are living stones. Let yourself be built up into a spiritual house, a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ.

You are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a singular people called to show forth the praises of Him who has called you out of darkness and into His marvelous light. In times past, you were not a people; but now you are the people of God. You had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy.

Dearly beloved, I beseech you as strangers and pilgrims, abstain from temptations of the flesh which war against the soul. Maintain righteous conduct among the Gentiles so that as they speak of you, they may observe your good works and glorify God on the day of visitation.

BREAKING OPEN THE TEXT:

In today’s first reading, Peter writes to the universal church reminding us of our need for continual spiritual nourishment. He reminds us of our foundation, Jesus Christ, the cornerstone, the “living stone,” rejected by humans but chosen by God. And as Christ bearers in this world, Peter calls us to be living stones joining together to build up Christ’s church here on earth.

ORATIO – Lifting our minds and hearts to the LORD in prayer:

Almighty and Eternal Father, we come to You this day in awe of your divine will and desire for life for us, life in abundance. We lift our voices to You in praise and in thanksgiving for the gift of your only-begotten Son whom You sent as our Savior. We implore You to send the Spirit to stir within us and rouse our minds and hearts so that we might fully take up our faith in your Son, Jesus Christ, and be instruments of His ongoing salvation in the world. Grant that we may embrace fully the salvation from You, through Jesus Christ, in the Spirit that is offered to us if we will believe and if we will love You and love one another as Christ taught us. We ask this in the name of your Son, Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns with You and the Spirit, one LORD, forever and ever. Amen.
