LECTIO - Read Scripture Text: 1 Peter 2:4-9
Come to Him, a living stone, rejected by men but chosen by God and precious. Like living stones give yourself to be built up into a spiritual house, a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ. As scripture tells,
“Behold, I lay in Zion a cornerstone,
Elect, and precious,
That whoever believe in him shall not be put to shame.”
So, its value is for those who faith, but for those without faith:
“The stone which the builders rejected,
Has become the corner stone,
And a stumbling block, being disobedient to the word, as they are destined.”
But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a persevering people who will show forth the praises of Him who has called you out of darkness into His marvelous light.
MEDITATIO - Meditate on text, allow the LORD to touch us with His Word:
BREAKING OPEN THE TEXT:
Today’s second reading from Peter’s 2nd Letter to the faithful describes the faithful believers as “living stones” brought together “into a spiritual house” with Christ as its cornerstone. It goes on to describe the faithful as chosen, “a royal priesthood, a holy nation” who perseveres in the marvelous light of Christ.
ORATIO – Lifting our minds and hearts to the LORD in prayer:
Lord, as we seek this day, this Sunday, to gather together as the faithful of Christ, send your Spirit to stir within us your Son’s call to us to be disciples, so we might live into the holy nation and persevering people You created us to be. We ask this in the name of your Son, Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns with You and the Spirit, one LORD, forever and ever. Amen.
CONTEMPLATIO – Sitting with the LORD in silence for a minute or more
