Daily Scripture Reflection & Prayer: May 6 , 2024

Date:   Monday of the 6th Week of Easter

Scripture Text:  John 15:26—16:4a

Jesus said to his disciples:

"When the Advocate comes whom I will send you from the Father, the Spirit of truth who proceeds from the Father, he will testify to me. And you also testify, because you have been with me from the beginning.

"I have told you this so that you may not fall away. They will expel you from the synagogues; in fact, the hour is coming when everyone who kills you will think he is offering worship to God. They will do this because they have not known either the Father or me. I have told you this so that when their hour comes you may remember that I told you."

Breaking the text open – background and summary:

The gospel text for today highlights Jesus’ promise of the Spirit and Jesus’ warnings of persecutions for His followers.

Meditating on the text with personal questions:

Do I open myself to the Spirit’s guidance and gifts so that I might more fully live my calling as Christ’s disciple?

Praying:

LORD, always and everywhere, You are with us, gifting us with your transformative love and the graces necessary to make this journey bolstered by faith, lifted by hope above suffering, and fueled by love. May the gifts of the Spirit make of us strong witnesses to You and to your love this day and all days. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
