LECTIO - Read Scripture Text: John 15:1-8
“I am the true vine, and my Father is the vine grower. Every branch in me that does not bear fruit, He takes away. And every branch that bears fruit, He prunes that it may bear more fruit. Now you are already pruned because of the word I spoke to you.
“Remain in me as I remain in you. Just as the branch cannot bear fruit on its own unless it remains on the vine, so neither can you unless you remain in me. I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever remains in me and I in him will bring forth much fruit, but without me you can do nothing. If one does not abide in me, he is cast off as a branch and withers. Men gather them and cast them into the fire where they are burned. But if you abide in me and my words abide in you, you shall ask whatever you will, and it shall be done for you. This is how my Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit and become my disciples."
MEDITATIO - Meditate on text, allow the LORD to touch us with His Word:
BREAKING OPEN THE TEXT:
In today’s gospel reading, Jesus tells us that He is “the true vine” and calls us to be His branches, His disciples. He emphasizes the need for us to remain in Him as a branch remains on the vine for without Christ, we can do nothing.”
ORATIO – Lifting our minds and hearts to the LORD in prayer:
Jesus Christ, Son of God, You are “the true vine” and we are your branches, your disciples. Send your Spirit to strengthen our reliance upon You without whom we can do nothing. Grant that through our loving adherence to You, we might bear much fruit for the glory of the Father. Be with us Lord. Amen.
CONTEMPLATIO – Sitting with the LORD in silence for a minute or more
