LECTIO - Read Scripture Text: John 15:12-17
“This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. No greater love has one than to lay down one’s life for one’s friend. You are my friends if you do what I command you.
“I do not all you slaves because slaves do not know what their master is doing. I call you friends because I have made known to you all I have heard from my Father. You did not choose me, I chose you, and I ordained you to go forth and produce fruit and that your fruit should remain. Whatever you shall ask of the Father in my name, He shall give you. This I command you; love one another.”
MEDITATIO - Meditate on text, allow the LORD to touch us with His Word:
BREAKING OPEN THE TEXT:
Today’s gospel continues Jesus’ teaching as “the true vine,” calling us to love as He loves: to love the Father as He does, to love Him as He loves us, and to love one another as He loves us. Jesus tells us we are not slaves but friends with whom He has shared the not only time but the Word (revelation/expression of God) and love.
ORATIO – Lifting our minds and hearts to the LORD in prayer:
LORD, Almighty Father, Beloved Son, Most Holy Spirit, our Creator, our Savior, and our Sanctifier, You are love and it is only because You are that we are. And it is only because of You and your great and life-giving love that we are saved. Grant that this day we walk in gratitude and awe, that we strive to love as You call us to love and live as You call us to live. We ask this in the name of Jesus Christ. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
CONTEMPLATIO – Sitting with the LORD in silence for a minute or more
