Daily Scripture Reflection & Prayer: May23 ,2026

NOTE: For the remaining days of May, I will feature a Scripture text involving Mary as tribute to her in this her month as the Mother of our Savior.

LECTIO - Read Scripture Text:   John 19:25-27

Now there stood by the cross of Jesus His mother, his aunt, Mary the wife of Cleopas, and Mary Magdalene. Jesus saw his mother and the disciple He loved standing near her. He said to his mother, “Woman, here is your son.” Then to the disciple, “Here is your mother.” From that moment the disciple took her into his own home.

MEDITATIO - Meditate on text, allow the LORD to touch us with His Word:

BREAKING OPEN THE TEXT:

In this short text from the Gospel of John, we see Jesus aware of his imminent death upon the cross, entrust His mother, Mary, to “the disciple whom He loved.”  In not naming the disciple, tradition tells us that Jesus was entrusting Mary to all of us as our Mother, as disciples whom He loves.”

ORATIO – Lifting our minds and hearts to the LORD in prayer:

LORD, Jesus Christ, Son of God, our Savior, we lift our minds and hearts to You this day. Send the Spirit to rouse in us faith that will not be extinguished in suffering, hope that will not give way to doubt because of hardships, and love that grows stronger as we contemplate the ransom You paid for our salvation. Grant that we may live well the lives You died to give to us. May we embrace your loving mother, the Blessed Virgin Mary, your original home on earth, your first disciple, bearer of Christ. Be with us LORD. Help us remain in You. Amen.
