Scripture Text: PSALM 119:1, 2, 10, 11, 17, 18

R. (1b) Blessed are they who follow the law of the Lord!

Blessed are they whose way is blameless,

who walk in the law of the LORD.

R. Blessed are they who follow the law of the Lord!

Blessed are they who observe his decrees,

who seek him with all their heart.

R. Blessed are they who follow the law of the Lord!

With all my heart I seek you;

let me not stray from your commands.

R. Blessed are they who follow the law of the Lord!

Within my heart I treasure your promise,

that I may not sin against you.

R. Blessed are they who follow the law of the Lord!

Be good to your servant, that I may live

and keep your words.

R. Blessed are they who follow the law of the Lord!

Open my eyes, that I may consider

the wonders of your law.

R. Blessed are they who follow the law of the Lord!

Breaking the text open – background and summary:

Our responsorial psalm for today provides us both an excellent prayer as well as meditation on the LORD’s law.

Meditating on the text with personal questions:

How much time and prayerful consideration have I given to the LORD’s law, its simplicity yet its scope?

Praying:

LORD, Your law is simple but not easy. You set before us the commands of love: love You with all our being and strength and love one another as we love ourselves. Our lives are to be lived intentionally through love, choosing love at every turn and in every situation. Grant that we may open ourselves fully to your love and let it inform our minds, conform our hearts, and transform us so that we might be instruments of your peace and wholeness. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end, Amen.
