Scripture Text: 3 John 5-8
Beloved, you are faithful in all you do for the brothers and sisters, especially for strangers; they have testified to your love before the Church. Please help them in a way worthy of God to continue their journey. For they have set out for the sake of the Name and are accepting nothing from the pagans. Therefore, we ought to support such persons, so that we may be co-workers in the truth.
Breaking the text open – background and summary:
The first reading for today taken from the 3rd Letter of John reminds us of our call to be faithful to our LORD in our dealings with and treatment of others, especially strangers. Such behavior has a way of bringing Christ to others and, ultimately, others to Christ.
Meditating on the text with personal questions:
Do I always and everywhere treat those whom encounter lovingly? Do I see this as my way of bringing Christ to every moment and every corner of our world?
Praying:
LORD, Jesus Christ, You call us to be your disciples and open ourselves to You. You commanded us “Remain in me as I remain in You.” Tenderize our being so that we are receptive to You and your loving and transformative power and presence. Make of us your instruments in this world. Amen.
