Breaking the text open – background and summary:
Today, our responsorial to the first reading from the Book of Daniel is not psalm but rather is a part of the song of praise sung by Shadrach, Meshack, and Abednego from within the huge furnace fire they were thrown into by King Nebuchadnessar’s guards. The angel of the LORD protected them, and they sang the LORD’s praises.
Meditating on the text with personal questions:
When I am in distress, do I praise the LORD? Is praise of the LORD on my mind and in my heart at all times regardless of what I am experiencing?
Praying:
LORD, I lift my heart and mind to You this day in praise. I ask forgiveness for not doing this more often, for not praising You for who You are and for not thanking You for who I am and for my very existence every day but most especially in those times when I know most clearly that without You and your love, I would not be. As I take in the wonders of creation this day, help me to also take in the wonders of life in You, with You and through You, this day and all days. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirits, as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
