Scripture Text: Psalm 96:10, 11-12, 13
R. The Lord comes to judge the earth.
Say among the nations: The LORD is king.
He has made the world firm, not to be moved;
he governs the peoples with equity.
R. The Lord comes to judge the earth.
Let the heavens be glad and the earth rejoice;
let the sea and what fills it resound;
let the plains be joyful and all that is in them!
Then shall all the trees of the forest exult.
R. The Lord comes to judge the earth.
Before the LORD, for he comes;
for he comes to rule the earth.
He shall rule the world with justice
and the peoples with his constancy.
R. The Lord comes to judge the earth.
Breaking the text open – background and summary:
Today’s responsorial psalm provides us with a meaningful response – a meaningful prayer – stressing the LORD’s constant love for and creation of and just governance of humanity.
Meditating on the text with personal questions:
How constant am I in my love for and mindfulness of my LORD?
Praying:
LORD, Almighty Father, Beloved Son, Most Holy Spirit, always and everywhere your creative love manifests itself in your power and presence at work in our world and in our lives. We look to You not only as the source of our very begin but also as the One in whom we live and move and have our being. Grant that we may daily grow in our knowledge of You and that our love for You will deepen and intensify so that we are compelled by that love to express it in praise, thanksgiving, and service in your name. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
