Date: Thanksgiving Day – Thursday of the 34th Week in Ordinary Time
Scripture Text: 1 Corinthians 1:3-9
Brothers and sisters:
Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. I give thanks to my God always on your account for the grace of God bestowed on you in Christ Jesus, that in him you were enriched in every way, with all discourse and all knowledge, as the testimony to Christ was confirmed among you, so that you are not lacking in any spiritual gift as you wait for the revelation of our Lord Jesus Christ. He will keep you firm to the end, irreproachable on the day of our Lord Jesus Christ. God is faithful, and by him you were called to fellowship with his Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.
Breaking the text open – background and summary:
The second reading for Thanksgiving Day is an excerpt from Paul’s 1st Letter to the Corinthians in which Paul gives thanks to the LORD God for the graces received in relationship with Jesus Christ and in which Paul prays that the LORD will keep the believers firm in their faith in Jesus Christ until such time as they can enter into life in abundance with Him.
Meditating on the text with personal questions:
How grateful am I daily to the LORD for the gift of His beloved Son, Jesus Christ, for my salvation and to the Spirit for the graces necessary to follow Christ as His disciple?
Praying:
LORD, Thank You for the gift of your beloved Son so that I might have life in abundance with You, redeemed by His selfless sacrifice upon the cross of Calvary. Thank you for my life as your child and as disciple to your Son, Jesus Christ. Send your Spirit to keep me firm in my faith as I journey here on earth in faith, hope and love. Amen.
