Scripture Text: PSALM 84:3, 4, 5-6A AND 8A
R. (Rev. 21:3b) Here God lives among his people.
My soul yearns and pines
for the courts of the LORD.
My heart and my flesh
cry out for the living God.
R. Here God lives among his people.
Even the sparrow finds a home,
and the swallow a nest
in which she puts her young–
Your altars, O LORD of hosts,
my king and my God!
R. Here God lives among his people.
Blessed they who dwell in your house!
continually they praise you.
Blessed the men whose strength you are!
They go from strength to strength.
R. Here God lives among his people.
Breaking the text open – background and summary:
Today’s responsorial psalm to the first reading from Revelation on the end time and judgment reminds us that we are created by the LORD for eternal relationship with the LORD and that until we are united, we will feel that yearning for that which we do not yet have. While our relationship on earth with the LORD is to be tended with our whole being, it is not yet what it will be – life in abundance with the LORD.
Meditating on the text with personal questions:
Do I recognize that constant yearning within as my soul’s desire for union with my LORD?
Praying:
LORD, Almighty Father, Beloved Son, Holy Spirit, we lift our voices in praise of You and all You are and we also offer thanksgiving for all You have created including us and our loved ones. Daily we seek to grow in our relationship with You, and yet we daily yearn for more. Strengthen our resolve to tend to our relationship with You and to live that daily in our loving relationship with our sisters and brothers so that we might live our journey here as You will and come to You as loving and faithful your Kingdom. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
