Daily Scripture Reflection & Prayer: October 17,2026

LECTIO - Read Scripture Text: Ephesians 1:15-23
After hearing of your faith in the Lord Jesus and of your love for all the holy ones, I do not cease giving thanks for you, making mention of you in my prayers, that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give you a spirit of wisdom and revelation resulting in knowledge of him.
May the eyes of your understanding be enlightened so that you may know what is the hope of his calling and what are the riches of glory in his inheritance among the holy ones, and what is the exceeding greatness of his power for us who believe, according to the working of his great might, which he worked in Christ, when he raised him from the dead and set him at his own right hand in the heavens, far above all principality, authority, power, and dominion and every name than that is named not only in this world but also in the one to come. And he put all things beneath his feet and gave him as head over all things to the Church which is his Body, the fullness of the one who fills all things in every way.
MEDITATIO - Meditate on text, allow the LORD to touch us with His Word:
Am I taking my place within Christ Living Body here on earth? How deep is my faith? Have I opened myself to Christ fully?
BREAKING OPEN THE TEXT:
In today’s first reading, we who believe in Christ are assured of the Christ’s lordship over all and of His church as the living Body of Christ. We are also reminded by the author of this letter that we are called to both interior faith and external charity toward others including prayer for one another. We are called to have faith in Christ who has dominion over all things and to act as His earthy Body in His ongoing salvific mission.
ORATIO – Lifting our minds and hearts to the LORD in prayer:
LORD, Almighty Father, Father of my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, thank You. Thank You for the gift of faith and for the Spirit who gifts me with wisdom and understanding so I might better grasp the enormity of the gift of your only-begotten Son to me and for me and my life. Grant that I may live into the call I have received and be open always to the greatness of your power at work in our world and in me. May I always recognize Christ’s dominion and how He fills all things in all ways. In Christ’s name I pray.
CONTEMPLATIO – Sitting with the LORD in silence for a minute or more
