LECTIO - Read Scripture Text: Ephesians 2:1-10
You were dead in your transgressions and sins in which you walked according to the course of this world, following to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now works in the children of disobedience. All of us once existed among them in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind, and were by nature the children or wrath, like the rest. But God who is rich in mercy, because of his great love for us, even when we were dead in sins, brought us to life with Christ. By grace you are saved. And He has raised us up together with him and made us to sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus that in the ages to come he might show the exceeding riches of his grace in his kindness toward us through Christ Jesus. For by grace you were saved through faith, not of your own doing. It is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast. For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works which God has preordained that we should walk in them.
MEDITATIO - Meditate on text, allow the LORD to touch us with His Word:
Do I consider often enough the LORD’s abundant and gracious mercy? Do I realize that I do not merit grace nor salvation but rather, the LORD gives it to me because of love but I must embrace it and live in that love and allow the grace to help me do good with love.
BREAKING OPEN THE TEXT:
The first reading for today from Ephesians proclaims salvation comes to us by grace through faith. We are reminded that we didn’t earn it or merit it, but rather that the LORD, rich in mercy, intervened. We are made alive with Christ, mystically incorporated into Christ. Good works don’t win salvation; but rather, believers are saved to do good works.
ORATIO – Lifting our minds and hearts to the LORD in prayer:
LORD, by your loving mercy, You have saved us and gifted us with grace. You made us alive with Christ. Help us to use this unmerited gift for love of You and for your glory. Lead us to do the good works You prepared for us that our lives may reflect the depth of your loving mercy. Amen,
