Date: Friday of the 29th Week in Ordinary Time
Scripture Text: Luke 12:54-59
Jesus said to the crowds, "When you see a cloud rising in the west you say immediately that it is going to rain–and so it does; and when you notice that the wind is blowing from the south you say that it is going to be hot–and so it is. You hypocrites! You know how to interpret the appearance of the earth and the sky; why do you not know how to interpret the present time?"
Why do you not judge for yourselves what is right? If you are to go with your opponent before a magistrate, make an effort to settle the matter on the way; otherwise, your opponent will turn you over to the judge, and the judge hand you over to the constable, and the constable throw you into prison. I say to you, you will not be released until you have paid the last penny."
Breaking the text open – background and summary:
In today’s gospel, we see Jesus warning us to “interpret the present time.” What does that mean and why does He then switch to being judged. Jesus’ message is meant to alert us to the fact that we will not live forever and that we should repent while we still have time.
Meditating on the text with personal questions:
Am I looking inward and recognizing my need for repentance for sins? What am I waiting for?
Praying:
LORD, You give us life but not promise of how long we will be on earth. Send your Spirit to stir within us, to help us honestly and humbly and lovingly look at what we have done and failed to do and the courage and wisdom to seek mercy. Grant that we may not put off righting our relationship with You and our sisters and brothers. LORD, we are not worthy of your love, but we trust in your mercy. Amen.

Thank you for your wisdom this morning
