Scripture Text: Ephesians 4:1-6
Brothers and sisters:
I, a prisoner for the Lord, urge you to live in a manner worthy of the call you have received, with all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another through love, striving to preserve the unity of the spirit through the bond of peace; one Body and one Spirit, as you were also called to the one hope of your call; one Lord, one faith, one baptism; one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all.
Breaking the text open – background and summary:
The first reading for today from the Letter to the Ephesians stresses our call to unity in our LORD.
Meditating on the text with personal questions:
Do I strive for unity with my LORD and others?
Praying:
LORD, Almighty Father, Beloved Son, Most Holy Spirit, You call us to yourself always and everywhere. Our lives are a gift from You and a journey back to You. Equip us with the gifts and graces necessary for our journey, with humility and gentleness, with patience and love. Grant that we may respond to your call with courage and perseverance as we seek the peace that is only possible and present in You. Make us agents of your unity here on earth. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
