Date: Feasts of St. Simon and St. Jude

Scripture Text: Ephesians 2:19-22

Brothers and sisters:

You are no longer strangers and sojourners, but you are fellow citizens with the holy ones and members of the household of God, built upon the foundation of the Apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus himself as the capstone. Through him the whole structure is held together and grows into a temple sacred in the Lord; in him you also are being built together into a dwelling place of God in the Spirit.

Breaking the text open – background and summary:

The first reading for today from the Letter to the Ephesians calls us to openness to the LORD’s formation through grace into His holy dwelling place here on earth.

Meditating on the text with personal questions:

Am I open to the LORD’s grace. Do I allow the LORD to inform my mind and heart? Do I open myself to the LORD’s transformation?

Praying:

LORD, You created us and call us to love You and to live our lives as daughters and sons. Throughout the ages, your love for us has never failed even when we have failed to live as You call us to live. You sent your beloved Son to dwell among us and as our brother to redeem us. Through Him, the law and the prophets were fulfilled. Grant that we may join individually and communally open ourselves to your Spirit in whom we are being built together into your dwelling place here on earth with Christ as our capstone. We ask this in the name of your Son, Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns with You and the Spirit, one LORD, forever and ever. Amen.
