Daily Scripture Reflection & Prayer:  September 25, 2024

Date: Wednesday of the 25th Week in Ordinary Time

Scripture Text:  Luke 9:1-6

Jesus summoned the Twelve and gave them power and authority over all demons and to cure diseases, and he sent them to proclaim the Kingdom of God and to heal the sick. He said to them, "Take nothing for the journey, neither walking stick, nor sack, nor food, nor money, and let no one take a second tunic. Whatever house you enter, stay there and leave from there. And as for those who do not welcome you, when you leave that town, shake the dust from your feet in testimony against them." Then they set out and went from village to village proclaiming the Good News and curing diseases everywhere.

In today’s gospel text taken from Luke, Jesus shares with the disciples His power and authority over both demons and disease and sends them out to continue and expand His mission of proclaiming the Kingdom through word and deed. His instructions to them underscore the need for a disciple’s total reliance upon the LORD.

How am I proclaiming the Kingdom? How trusting and reliant am I on the LORD?

Praying:

LORD, Almighty Father, Beloved Son, Most Holy Spirit, I praise You for all You are, Creator, Redeemer, Sanctifier, and I give You thanks for my life and the lives of my loved ones. Fill me with the courage to be an instrument of your divine will and salvation in this world. Grant that I may proclaim your kingdom through my words and deeds this day and all days. Strengthen my dependence upon You and your transformative love. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
