Sunday Morning Plumbing (07/20/2026)

Yesterday, as I stepped onto my porch with my cup of coffee and so in need of a good, long conversation with the LORD, I immediately spotted a huge puddle in front of my fountain. Fortunately, my son was visiting and he was able to help because frankly, without my coffee and my prayer, I’m pretty useless. He assessed the situation, figured out there was an algae clog in the line, then he asked for a large paper clip and vinegar. In moments, He had the line clear and the problem solved.

I cleaned up the water mess, put away his equipment, and treated him to a cup of coffee as a reward for coming to my rescue. And you’d be right if you guessed that the first thank you on my prayer list was for him, his presence in my need, his willingness to make my problem his problem, and his knowledge that informed his solution. And that opener led me to remember so many other times in my life when providential help arrived. The LORD is good all the time and He drafts great helpers.

Last night as I pondered all the events of the weekend and of the day, I gave thanks for so much that came my way and touched my life, and of course, I included the plumbing rescue. And I saw within my week and day not only reason to be grateful but also the invitation that is there in so many of the LORD’s gifts – the invitation to do the same for others. I ended my prayer last night promising to be open to being His agent, His instrument in the world, as I encounter the needs of others. And I promised to be open to His invitation to go where He wants me and love others the way He taught me.

Only the LORD could use a Sunday morning plumbing issue to teach an old girl. As we journey in this life, in faith, in hope, and with love, let us remain open to the experiences and the lessons the LORD brings to us along the way often wrapped as events or emergencies. Let us ponder, let us glean the lessons woven within the moments and actions. Jesus taught us in parables. The LORD writes straight with crooked lines.

Until tomorrow, let us all love well.
