What Will Today Bring? (07/13/2026)

 I’m a planner. Well, I didn’t use to be. I used to be a “fly by the seat of my pants” kind of girl. But then I met and married the world’s best planner. And before I knew it, I was planner, too. I make some of the most amazing “to do” lists. I use pretty paper for them, because life has taught me that there are plans and then there is life. So, my “to do” lists have a tendency of needing to sit out for long periods of time. My current “to do” list is long and has a couple of coffee stains on it and one corner is missing. And every morning I look at it as I wonder what today will bring.

Life is like that for me. There are plans and then there is life. The lists give me direction for those moments when I have none, when I’m faced with the question of “what next?”. But most of the time, trying to be present to those around me keeps me busy. For instance, I wasn’t expecting a house full of family Saturday. It was just supposed to be my monthly “granddaughter day.” But then my granddaughter-in-law came and asked if she could have a coordinating meeting at my house for their upcoming wedding. And suddenly, instead of one visitor, there were six.

I also wasn’t expecting a realtor’s requests on behalf of a neighbor as she tried to list her home on the market. As the secretary for our condo association, I had to provide several documents before the listing could be placed online. I hadn’t planned for a call from a friend who needed to talk or for the calls from a niece who needed to talk about her grief. None of those had been on my “to do” list, yet each one of them enriched my day and enhanced my life.

We are created by our all-loving and all-present LORD, “I AM.” We are created in our LORD’s image and likeness. Makes sense we are to be present, if nothing else. We need direction, and the LORD saw to that as well, telling us “I am the way, the truth, and the life.” Life isn’t easy, but life is simple. We are called to live it aware of our LORD who is all-present and being present to our sisters and brothers we encounter on our journey, especially in their need.

We will have things we hope and need to do, items on our “to do” lists. The LORD who created time knows of our lists and knows us. Let us make our lists but remain flexible, open to what the day will bring and what it calls us to do and who it calls us to be. He who created time will make sure we have enough.
