Daily Scripture Reflection & Prayer: August ,2026
LECTIO - Read Scripture Text: 1 Corinthians 1:26-31
See, brothers and sisters, how few wise, how few powerful, and how few of noble birth were called. Rather, God chose the foolish of the world to confound the wise, and God chose the weak of the world to shame the strong, and God chose the lowly and despised of the world, those counting for little, to reduce to nothing those who are something so that no human being might boast before God.
Because of Him, you are in Christ Jesus, who became for us wisdom from God as well as righteousness, sanctification, and redemption, so that, as it is written, “Whoever boasts, should boast in the Lord.”
MEDITATIO - Meditate on text, allow the LORD to touch us with His Word:
Do I err in arrogance? Can I put on the true humility of admitting my need for Christ?
BREAKING OPEN THE TEXT:
In today’s first reading from Paul’s 1st Letter to the Corinthians, Paul reminds us of that salvation, righteousness, and holiness come entirely from the LORD through grace and not from our works or according to our merit. Paul tells us the Lord selects the unlikely so it is obvious that it is by the LORD’s power and presence that we are sanctified and redeemed. All arrogance must be put aside, our only boast must rightfully be in the LORD.
ORATIO – Lifting our minds and hearts to the LORD in prayer:
LORD, with all humility, I come to You this day. I thank You for choosing me from my creation until now. I acknowledge it is only because You are that I am. Without You, I would not be. Strip away any pride in my mind and heart. Send your Spirit to stir within me and rouse my soul to surrender to Christ, my savior, your only-begotten Son. Amen.
