LECTIO - Read Scripture Text:   Luke 6:27-38

(Jesus said to his disciples)

“I say to you who can hear, love your enemies, do good to them who hate you. Bless those that curse you and pray for those who use you spitefully. And to him who strikes you on one cheek, offer him the other. And if one takes away your cloak, let him also take your coat. Give to every man that asks of you, and from the one who takes what is yours, do not demand it back. Do unto others as you would want them to do to you.

"For if you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? Even sinners love those who love them. And if you do good only to those who do good for you, what credit is that to you? Even sinners do the same. If you lend money to those who you expect will repay you, what credit is that to you? Even sinners lend to sinners and get back the same amount. But rather, love your enemies and do good to them; lend expecting nothing back. Then the reward will be great and you will be children of the Most High because He himself is kind to the ungrateful and the wicked. Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful.

“Stop judging and you will not be judged. Stop condemning, and you will not be condemned. Forgive and you will be forgiven. Give and gifts will be given to you. A good measure, packed together, shaken down and overflowing will be poured into your lap. For the measure with which you measure will in return be measured out to you.”

MEDITATIO - Meditate on text, allow the LORD to touch us with His Word:

Do I truly treat others always and everywhere the way I want to be treated? Am I capable of forgiveness and mercy towards others?

BREAKING OPEN THE TEXT:

Today’s gospel is taken from Jesus’ Sermon on the Plain found in the Gospel of Luke. Jesus calls us to radical and unconditional love reflecting more perfectly the Heavenly Father’s love.

ORATIO – Lifting our minds and hearts to the LORD in prayer:

Loving and gracious Lord, your love and mercy are without equal, and You call us to love as You love and to have mercy as You have mercy. Lord, You know how this difficult this is for us, but You call us to it anyway, You call us out of our comfort zones and ask us to live as the ones You created us to be and call us to be. Send the Spirit to stir within me, to rouse within me the loving instincts for goodness and loving kindness woven within. Help me always and everywhere to trust in You and your grace and give me the courage to live the radical love you call me to live. Amen.

CONTEMPLATIO – Sitting with the LORD in silence for a minute or more
