Scripture Text: Mark 8:22-26
When Jesus and his disciples arrived at Bethsaida, people brought to him a blind man and begged Jesus to touch him. He took the blind man by the hand and led him outside the village. Putting spittle on his eyes he laid his hands on the man and asked, “Do you see anything?” Looking up the man replied, “I see people looking like trees and walking.” Then he laid hands on the man’s eyes a second time and he saw clearly; his sight was restored, and he could see everything distinctly. Then he sent him home and said, “Do not even go into the village.”
Breaking the text open – background and summary:
The gospel text for today from the Gospel of Mark recounts Jesus’ healing of a blind man at Bethsaida. We note Jesus’ personal and tender care of the blind man.
Meditating on the text with personal questions:
Do I bring my need and desire “to see” to Jesus? Do I ask Him to help me see Him more clearly?
Praying:
LORD, Almighty Father, You sent your only-begotten Son into the world to assume our human nature and as our brother to reveal You and your love for us and will for our salvation. Through His teaching, His miracles, and most especially His selfless sacrifice upon the cross of Calvary, He illuminated our minds and our world for He is truly “the Way and the Truth and the Life.” Send your Spirit to open our eyes so that we might see Him more clearly in the Scriptures, in the Eucharist, and in our world, in one another. We ask this in the name of your Son, Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns with You and the Spirit, one LORD, forever and ever, Amen.
