Daily Scripture Reflection & Prayer: July 1,2026

LECTIO - Read Scripture Text:   Amos 5:14-15, 21-24

Seek good and not evil so that you may live and so the LORD, the God of hosts shall be with you as you claim. Hate evil and love good and let justice prevail at the gate so that the LORD, the God of hosts will be gracious to the remnant of Joseph.

I hate, I despise your feast days. Though you offer me burnt offerings and meat offerings, I will not accept them.  Cease the noise of your songs, for I will not listen to their melody. Instead, let justice rain down as waters and righteousness as a mighty stream.

MEDITATIO - Meditate on text, allow the LORD to touch us with His Word:

Is my prayer authentic? Am I bringing my best self to the LORD? Am I allowing the LORD to guide my heart and self to loving Him by loving others, most especially those in need?

BREAKING OPEN THE TEXT:

In today’s first reading from the Prophet Amos, the LORD rejects empty religious ritual void of justice and righteousness. The LORD reminds us that true adoration involves authentic love for our LORD and sincere concern and are for one another beginning with the most vulnerable.

ORATIO – Lifting our minds and hearts to the LORD in prayer:

LORD, Almighty Father, Beloved Son, Most Holy Spirit, I praise You with all my being and thank You for my life and for the blessings that abound. Help me to be the one You created me to be, to live as You call me to live, and to love as You command that I love. Grant that my gift to You may be living a life of sincere love for You and for others, especially the most vulnerable. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
