Daily Scripture Reflection & Prayer: September 23,2026

LECTIO - Read Scripture Text:   Luke 9:1-6

Jesus called the Twelve and gave them power and authority over all demons and to cure illnesses. And He sent them to proclaim the Kingdom of God and to heal the ill. He said to them, “Take nothing for the journey, neither walking stick, nor sack, nor food, nor money, and let no one take a second tunic. Whichever house you enter into, stay there and leave from there. And as for those who are unwelcoming to you, when you leave that town, shake the dust from your feet in testimony against them.”

Then they set out and went from town to town proclaiming the Good News and healing illnesses everywhere.

MEDITATIO - Meditate on text, allow the LORD to touch us with His Word:

Do I take Christ to others? Do I rely on the LORD alone or lean too heavily on self-reliance?

BREAKING OPEN THE TEXT:

In today’s Gospel, Jesus commissions the Twelve to go out in his name. We are reminded that we are called, too, to participate in Christ’s ongoing salvific ministry and mission. And we are urged through Christ’s words to trust in the LORD.

ORATIO – Lifting our minds and hearts to the LORD in prayer:

LORD Jesus Christ, Son of God, Savior, You call us to bring You to others, to proclaim the Good News through word and through our lives. Send your Spirit to rouse within our minds and hearts the courage to go where You send us and to bring You to others and others to You. Grant that as we go, as we seek to follow in your footsteps, that we may rely upon You and your love, trusting in your presence and provisions for us. Amen.

CONTEMPLATIO – Sitting with the LORD in silence for a minute or more
