LECTIO - Read Scripture Text:   Luke 9:46-50

Then there arose a dispute among the disciples as to which of them should be greatest. And Jesus, recognizing their questioning, took a child and set him before them. And he said to them, “Whosoever shall receive this child in my name receives me, and whosoever receives me, receives Him who sent me. The least among you all shall be the greatest.”

And John answered and said, Master, we saw one casting out devils in your name, and we forbid him because he is not one of us.” And Jesus said to him, “Do not forbid him, for whoever is not against us is for us.”

MEDITATIO - Meditate on text, allow the LORD to touch us with His Word:

Am I inclusive of others following Christ? Do I get caught up in status within the Body of Christ? Aren’t we all needed?

BREAKING OPEN THE TEXT:

In today’s gospel, Jesus teaches us of the need for true humility and to set down status and self-serving ambitions. And in response to the apostle John’s question, Jesus calls us to unity with others who believe in Him and who work in His name.

ORATIO – Lifting our minds and hearts to the LORD in prayer:

LORD Jesus Christ, Son of God, my Savior, eradicate my personal ambitions and replace them with a whole-hearted desire to love You well in living as You call me to live and loving as You call me to love. Open my eyes, my mind, and my heart to You, your love, and your Way. Amen.

CONTEMPLATIO – Sitting with the LORD in silence for a minute or more
